Frequently Asked Questions

What do I wear to a treatment session?

Men can wear loose-fitting shorts and women can wear loose-fitting shorts and a tank top or jog bra. The skin should be free of powders, lotions, oils, etc. to enable the therapist to engage the fascia without sliding over the skin.

What should I expect at my first session?

Your therapist will first review your intake form, ask you about your goals and expectations, and answer any questions you may have before assessing your posture and structural balance as a starting point for treatment.

Do I need a prescription from my physician?

In North Carolina, you can be treated by a physical therapist without a prescription, however, if you plan on submitting payment for reimbursement to your insurance company, your insurance may require one.

Will Myofascial Release (MFR)therapy hurt?

No. MFR will not hurt or injure you. Fascial restrictions are released by gentle, sustained pressure directly on the skin in areas of blockage and pain. Sinking into your tissues to the point of resistance, the therapist will hold the position for at least 3-5 minutes (the time required for release and to avoid the body bracing further in reaction). During that time of holding, you may experience a stretching or rope burn sensation on your skin. This won’t injure you and usually fades in the first 60-90 seconds of the hold. Your therapist will stay within your pain limits and you are encouraged to provide feedback on what you are feeling.

What can I expect to feel after a session?

Many people report a feeling of relief and a decrease in symptoms along with increased mobility. At times you will feel a variety of sensations as your body releases restrictions. It is important to note that as you engage in this healing journey, there will be moments when you feel worse before you feel better as your body reorganizes and heals. You may feel nauseated, fatigued, lethargic, or experience a temporary increase in symptoms. Not to worry! This is part of the healing process.

How many times do I need to come for treatment?

There is no cookie-cutter answer to this question because MFR treats the root cause of pain and dysfunctional pattern in the body—and each person comes with a different set of restrictions. While many clients note significant improvement after the first 1-3 treatments, there are no quick fixes, particularly if you have long-term chronic pain and dysfunction. Lasting change requires addressing all areas of restriction. Having treatments close together in the beginning is beneficial because MFR has a compounding effect.

What does a treatment cost?

One 60-minute session is $150. Packages of 6 sessions are available for $800 (a $100 discount).

How do I pay you?

We take cash, debit cards, and major credit cards for payment at the time of service.

Do you take insurance?

We do not bill insurance. We can provide you with a bill stating the treatment that you received, but cannot guarantee whether or not your insurance will reimburse you.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require that you let us know 24 hours before your treatment if you’d like to cancel or reschedule. Failure to do this results in a 50% charge for the missed treatment. In the case of a family, transportation, or health emergency, please notify us ASAP. Arriving late will result in a shorter treatment time that is billed for the full hour.
